Happy Thanksgiving!

Wow. That was fun!

So, this past week, The Entire Gibson Clan invaded Portland. OK, not the entire clan, but my mom, my sis, my dad, his parents, and my mom's mom. Sister and mom's mom stayed with us, everybody else was at the hotel 'cross the river. WONDERFUL time! Saw a great big airplane, almost got blown down the Gorge at Vista House, and amused my coworker with family hijinks at the fish joint. More or less super fun good times.

Thursday was Family Thanksgiving. I chickened out on frying the second turkey, because I was running short on time and propane. Good thing I was VERY clever, and bought a big ol' smoked bird from Clay's. Last week, B suggested that we might think about buying a smoked turkey while we were doing dinner there. My first reaction was "Fool woman! I'm FRYING turkeys!" But then, I had a vision of TORRENTIAL DOWNPOUR on Thanksgiving day, and fourteen hungry people (my fam, B's fam, and random other ppl) looking at me, wanting me to Do Food Magic.

I swiftly reconsidered my derisive dismissal.

The next day, dropped off a Great Big Frozen Bird, four days later delicious turkey. YUM. And yay! Totally used the backup turkey.

Got a couple new yummy recipes broken in this year. Cranberry relish, and cornbread dressing (which works beautifully with rosemary instead of sage, and you can throw in some nice stale wheat sourdough in place of the Plain Old Bread).

My grandparents took off yesterday, and everybody else landed safely this evening. Decompression begins in five...four...three...two...buhbye.

Okay, that was mean.

So B just turned on the shower while Biscuit (the big orange cat) was in the tub.

She's mean.

It was funny.

Our cat is pretty ridiculously cute.

My grandparents sent us a lovely serving tray today! They're coming to visit for Thanksgiving, so I'm pretty confident they'll see it again soon. Our little kitty Maggie took ownership of the box about four seconds after it hit the floor.

She's really cute.

I hate when that happens...

Okay, so let's do a thought experiment.

You're driving your car into the parking lot at work, and you see somebody you know who's walking across the driveway, heading into the office. You know, walking. Like on foot. Do you:

a) Stop and wait for them to pass, because they're a pedestrian
b) Speed up like a freakin' crazyperson driving in off the street.

Well, if you were my coworker today, you'd have chosen b. Now you might ask, "Well, how do you know they saw you? It was a grim and rainy day...we all make mistakes...it can happen..."

Fair enough.

If you want to play it off that way, don't wave at the pedestrian you almost hit. Before you almost hit them.

Just a thought.

Further, the kansas board of education has come out in favor of a curriculum including the doctrine of intelligent design. Further, the kansas board of education has gone so far as to rewrite the definitinon of the word "science". This is too rich not to quote:

In addition, the board rewrote the definition of science, so that it is no longer limited to the search for natural explanations of phenomena.

To add insult to injury, it looks like they're not even going to include the Gospel according to the Flying Spaghetti Monster in their curriculum.

OK, people, that's it. kansas can get their capital K back when they fix science.
