Merry Christmas!
I know that it's gauche in some circles, but I really love the Christmas season. Right now, I'm sitting on my back porch with the ol' laptop, enjoying the cool weather and watching a turkey fry. (Yes, that's number three this year, and so far the house has completely not burned down. Go me.) Inside, I've got a pot of chili on the stove, a nine foot Christmas tree, a bunch of lights to untangle, a box of ornaments from my grandparents, two cats and a fiancee.
Oh yeah, and hot buttered rum. That's the quality action, yo.
This weekend, B and I went with my cow-orker and his wife to hunt the elusive Christmas tree. After doing a lil dead reckoning around Cornelius, OR, we found our way to this house on the top of a little hill. Out behind the house were trees, which the owner happily sold to us. (Nine foot noble fir. $25. It is not possible to beat that.) I brought my nifty little battery-operated chainsaw, and we cut ourselves a couple trees. Strapped 'em to the roof of the wagon, and Bob's your uncle. (Actually, he's my boss, but that's another story). And now the house smells like pine. Yum. The cats were pretty weirded out by the Big Green Thing in the front room, but they'll get over it.
My Thermometer of Infinite Power says the bird's almost done, so that'll be it for now. Oh yeah! Check out my friend Erin's pictures from her Peace Corps posting in Lesotho. (Geography lesson: Lesotho is a tiny mountainous country landlocked by South Africa. Now you know.)
Edit:
Well, that sucks. My pot o' chili burned. Now it tastes like a really good chili served in a really dirty ash tray. I'm seriously annoyed.
